The Cooper Institute's Providing Dietary Guidance Course for Health and Fitness Professionals Now Available Online

Posted on: Thursday, 4 June 2009, 08:00 CDT

DALLAS, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cooper Institute, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to preventive medicine research and education based at the world-renowned Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas, announces the online availability of the Providing Dietary Guidance (PDG) course. This 90-day, self-paced course helps health and fitness professionals address their client's nutrition needs. Powered by the eCollege(R) platform, participants earn The Cooper Institute Certificate of Achievement upon passing the end-of-course test.

"Since health and fitness professionals are often asked about nutrition by their clients, this online course covers both the science of nutrition and the practical application to everyday life," says Laura Fast, M.B.A., course director.

Students work through lessons, short before/after quizzes, and interactive games to facilitate the learning process - anytime and anywhere they have access to the internet. Students also learn about many public health tools that allow them to assess general dietary practices. After successfully completing the course, students are able to give dietary guidance that is ethical and accurate based on public policies and 40 years of research at The Cooper Institute.

The Cooper Institute's first live, research-based PDG course developed by their expert instructors was held in July 2000 in Germany and, until recently, offered the course at its Dallas location. The home study version on DVD was added in 2007. Now available online, The Cooper Institute provides its quality course utilizing the eCollege setting.

"We are excited about the opportunity to reach students that otherwise wouldn't be able to attend our live courses due to location. It's just the beginning of expanding The Cooper Institute's course offerings online," says Fast.

In addition to earning The Cooper Institute Certificate of Achievement, as a preapproved Continuing Education Credit (CEC) member of several organizations, students may also earn credits towards maintaining their current certifications.
