United Concordia Dental Celebrates National Smile Month

Dental Insurer Provides Free Dental Services and Education to Those in Need

HARRISBURG, Pa., June 9 /PRNewswire/ — National dental insurer United Concordia Dental is celebrating National Smile Month from June 1 through June 30. The event, a collaboration between Oral Health America and the British Dental Health Foundation, promotes the importance of proper oral care, good nutrition and regular dentist visits.

United Concordia Dental’s focus on community is evident through the more than $100,000 of free dental services that the company has sponsored in the first quarter of 2009 alone. In fact, three clinics are scheduled during National Smile Month, in Columbus, Ga., Uniontown, Pa. and Pittsburgh, Pa.

“National Smile Month is a great opportunity for United Concordia Dental to spread the word that dental disease is preventable with proper care of the mouth, good nutrition and regular visits to the dentist,” said Dr. Richard P. Klich, United Concordia’s National Dental Director. “These dental clinics provide a way for United Concordia to reach out to those members of the community that otherwise could not afford preventive dental care, and help provide a number of services they need to maintain good oral health.”

Each clinic has volunteer dentists who examine the attendees and discuss any dental problems they have been experiencing. Dental treatment is often provided at the clinics, or referrals are provided for the patients to receive treatment at a later date.

“Educating everyone on the importance of good oral health is a top priority for United Concordia Dental, because dental disease may be connected to medical conditions that affect the entire body,” said Dr. Klich. “Our participation in National Smile Month helps to accomplish that goal.”
