PreferredOne Joins Minnesota Health Information Exchange

Posted on: Tuesday, 9 June 2009, 11:54 CDT

EAGAN, Minn., June 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Minnesota Health Information Exchange (MN HIE) announces an agreement with PreferredOne, a leading health benefits administrator serving Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. PreferredOne will provide major contribution to the growth of MN HIE - helping to expand the secure patient directory and becoming a major new source of health information available to physicians, hospitals and other providers. This will greatly support and enhance the physician-patient relationship.

PreferredOne participation improves the potential for MN HIE services to enhance the care delivered by the majority of primary care physicians, specialists and hospitals in the state, and to impact the health care experience of all PreferredOne members.

"We are excited about PreferredOne's involvement and support, and recognize how beneficial their experience and expertise will be to MN HIE as we expand services and broaden provider adoption," said Michael Ubl, MN HIE Executive Director.

Over 3.9 million Minnesota residents are currently represented in the MN HIE secure patient directory, allowing participating providers to exchange important clinical and administrative information not previously or readily available. This improves coordination of care and patient management. MN HIE services currently, and in the near future, include medication history, eligibility information, lab reports, immunization history and exchange of medical record information.

"We are committed in our support of MN HIE and see the real benefits for our members and providers," said John Hofflander, PreferredOne Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. "MN HIE's mission is clearly consistent with PreferredOne's commitment to use of innovative technology to further improve quality, safety and value of care delivered to our members, and to collaboration with our network providers on increased efficiency and patient management."
