Western Governors University Offers Special Nursing Scholarships for Employees of Hospital Partners

RNs Working at Six Major U.S. Hospitals Eligible for $3,000 to Attend Online University

SALT LAKE CITY, June 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Western Governors University, www.wgu.edu, has announced a new program for nurses working at partner hospitals, the WGU Nursing Partners Scholarship Fund. Registered nurses employed by Cedar-Sinai Hospital, Tenet Healthcare, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Kaiser Permanente, Catholic Healthcare West, and Universal Health Services are eligible to receive scholarships valued at up to $3,000 toward one of WGU's CCNE-accredited bachelor's or master's degree nursing programs.

WGU's College of Health Professions offers a unique academic approach specifically designed for working nurses. Rather than attending traditional classes and earning credit hours, students are required to demonstrate their knowledge and competency by writing papers, completing assignments, and taking exams. Degree requirements have been developed in collaboration with the healthcare industry to ensure that nursing graduates are skilled in patient care, nurse education, and nurse leadership. Each student is assigned a mentor, who acts as coach and guide throughout the degree program. WGU's terms are six months in length and can start the first of any month. Students work with their mentors to develop an academic schedule that fits their lives and schedules.

The Nursing Partners Scholarship program is designed for nurses working at WGU's partner hospitals who want to further their careers by earning a bachelor's or master's degree in nursing. The following CCNE-accredited degree programs are eligible:

• B.S. Nursing (RN to BSN)
• M.S. Nursing--Education
• M.S. Nursing--Leadership and Management
• M.S. Nursing--Education (RN to MSN Option)
• M.S. Nursing--Leadership and Management (RN to MSN option)

Scholarships will be awarded at the rate of $600 per six-month term for up to five terms. The scholarship program is competitive, and multiple scholarships will be awarded.
