National Minority Quality Forum to Release Groundbreaking National HIV/AIDS Atlas

Posted on: Wednesday, 17 June 2009, 11:21 CDT

WASHINGTON, June 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Monday, June 22, the National Minority Quality Forum will launch the groundbreaking HIV/AIDS Atlas of the United States at the Kaiser Family Foundation in Washington, DC. The Forum is releasing this Web-based Atlas (http://www.maphiv.org) to highlight the local impact of the HIV epidemic across the United States for National HIV Testing Day, on June 27.

Using cutting-edge technology, the Atlas was developed from data provided by HIV/AIDS surveillance branches within state and territorial departments of health in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and New York City. It presents county-level prevalence rates based on reported numbers of people living with HIV (non-AIDS) and AIDS. The Atlas can display available data by age, gender, or race/ethnicity and can overlay congressional and state legislative districts on the county-level data.
