Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy: Only Vendor to Receive URAC Accreditation for Both Disease Management and Drug Therapy Management

Posted on: Tuesday, 7 July 2009, 14:48 CDT

SWARTZ CREEK, Mich., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy, a leader in disease management (DM) and drug therapy management (DTM) announced today that their specialty pharmacy has received accreditation from URAC, a Washington, DC-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry. Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy received accreditation for their Chronic Kidney Disease DM program, and for their Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Hepatitis C DTM programs. Diplomat is the only vendor to receive URAC accreditation for both DM and DTM programs.

"Diplomat is an organization that is dedicated to doing what is right for our patients and our clients. Stringent standards required for URAC accreditation assure our patients and our clients that they are receiving the highest quality services from Diplomat," stated Phil Hagerman, President and CEO of Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy. "URAC accreditation means that we go beyond simply filling a prescription. Diplomat also has systems in place to make sure our patients are taking the right dose at the right time, are adhering to their medications and are receiving the best possible outcomes. This accreditation process ensures that Diplomat will continue to set new industry standards."

"We are proud to have earned the recognition of URAC, a highly-respected, quality-driven organization," stated Atheer Kaddis, Diplomat's Vice President of Managed Markets. "URAC accreditation provides our patients, providers, and clients with the assurance that our Disease Management and Drug Therapy Management programs are best-in-class by promoting quality of care and keeping healthcare costs in check."

URAC's accreditation process for both Disease Management and Drug Therapy Management includes an application and evaluation process, a rigorous on-site evaluation and assessment by a URAC accreditation team, and review and consideration for accreditation by URAC's Accreditation Committee.

URAC's accreditation standards promote core organizational excellence and a clear focus on patient safety, outcomes measurement and quality improvement. Meeting URAC's standards means Diplomat strives for appropriate therapeutic outcomes for patients through improved medication use; reduces the incidence of adverse events; and reports to an oversight committee.

URAC, an independent, nonprofit organization, is a leader in promoting health care quality through accreditation and certification programs. URAC's standards keep pace with the rapid changes in the health care system, and provide a mark of distinction for health care organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality and accountability. Through its broad-based governance structure and an inclusive standards development process, URAC ensures that all stakeholders are represented in setting meaningful standards for the health care industry.
