HCA Inc. Affiliated Hospitals Join AvMed Network in West Florida

Posted on: Tuesday, 12 July 2005, 15:00 CDT

AvMed Health Plans announced today that 14 hospitals affiliated with the West Florida Division of HCA Inc. have joined the AvMed provider network in an area stretching from Hernando County to Lee County.

This arrangement brings to AvMed's network an array of well-known community hospitals such as Brandon Regional Medical Center in Brandon, Community Hospital in New Port Richey, Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, Largo Medical Center in Largo and Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center in Fort Myers (see a complete listing of hospitals below).

The West Florida Division also brings to the AvMed network eleven (11) diagnostic imaging centers and nine (9) ambulatory surgical centers.

Meanwhile, this means that some 500 primary care doctors and physician specialists will be able to contract or recontract with AvMed. Some of these doctors and specialists practice exclusively at HCA, Inc. affiliated facilities.

With this agreement, AvMed now offers every acute care hospital in the West Florida region in the AvMed network.

"This is a very exciting time for AvMed. HCA Inc. and its affiliated hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers and diagnostic imaging centers have a long history of providing high-quality, cost-effective healthcare and we are proud to expand our member's options through this partnership," said Jeff Ray, AvMed's Director of Sales for the Tampa Bay area. "Not only will our members benefit by having more choices in doctors, hospitals and clinics to serve their healthcare needs, but employers throughout the region will have a new alternative in offering their employees a comprehensive healthcare network through AvMed."

The agreement took effect on July 1, meaning the expanded West Florida network is in place for the fall's open enrollment season, when employers and employees select their health plans for the coming year.

"We are pleased to participate with AvMed and to be a part of their extensive healthcare network," said Bob Marchesini, Vice President Managed Care - HCA West Florida Division. "Our HCA hospitals look forward to offering more choices and convenience, combined with quality care and member satisfaction by participating as a network provider."
