Energy and Commerce Committee Advances Long-Term Services and Supports in Health Care Reform

WASHINGTON, July 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging today applauds Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) and the members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee for including the Community Living Assistance and Supportive Services (CLASS) Act in H.R. 3200, the Affordable Health Choices Act.
The CLASS Act would create a publicly driven financing plan whose premiums provide cash benefits to pay for long-term services and supports. It is a plan built on principles that support America's families and have the potential for significant Medicaid savings.
"The CLASS Act begins to bridge the worlds of acute-care Medicaid and long-term disability with the real world where people live everyday," said Larry Minnix, President and CEO of AAHSA. "We encourage the Senate Finance Committee, the House Ways and Means Committee and the entire Congress to advance these legislative provisions and make it more affordable to care for America's older adults and people with disabilities."
