The San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, one of over 100 Affiliates nationwide dedicated to putting an end to breast cancer, recently provided community grants totaling over $1.6 million dollars to support Bay Area breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs.
The Komen San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate’s local fundraising efforts, such as the Komen SF Race for the Cure(R), have enabled it to fund projects such as new mammography equipment for San Francisco General Hospital & Trauma Center.
“The grant from San Francisco Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure provides us with critical support to greatly improve access to mammography services for the City’s most vulnerable women,” said Roland Pickens, Senior Associate Administrator, San Francisco General Hospital. “In this time of diminishing resources, this grant is a beacon of hope in a financial storm.”

Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Komen SF Bay Area Affiliate stays in the Bay Area through our annual grants program to local tax exempt organizations providing breast cancer education, screening, support and treatment services to underserved women and their families. A minimum of 25 percent of our annual income is directed to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program for energizing science to find the cures.
