Managing Myeloma Website Launches an Interactive Forum for Oncology Nurses, Wins 2009 Gold Hermes Creative Award for Site Overall

MORRISVILLE, Pa., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Managing Myeloma (www.ManagingMyeloma.com), an accredited educational website for multidisciplinary professionals, has launched a forum designed specifically for oncology nurses. The goal of the nursing forum is to share insight about day-to-day practice challenges in caring for patients with multiple myeloma, provide updates on clinical advances, and connect with peers.
Beth Faiman, RN, MSN, CNP, AOCN, a nurse practitioner at the Cleveland Clinic and member of the Managing Myeloma advisory board, is an advocate of the forum. "Nurses are integral to daily management and care of patients, which often leads to improved outcomes, so I encourage nurses to participate to discuss the hot topics in myeloma. These are challenging patients in terms of treatment of their cancer. Nurses can make good use of the experiences of others from this forum as many are at the forefront of treatment," said Faiman.
According to Faiman, the identification and management of peripheral neuropathy, the special requirements of patients with concurrent kidney disease, and the role of stem cell transplant in managing the patient with myeloma are some of the most needed topics for nurses.
Launched at the December 2008 ASH meeting, the Managing Myeloma website provides much needed education, information, and tools for physicians, pharmacists, and nurses involved in the care of patients with multiple myeloma. The innovative nature of this condition-focused education and information resource has garnered attention and kudos beyond the health care community. In its first few months in the field, Managing Myeloma has been awarded the 2009 Gold Hermes Creative Award, honoring the creators and messengers of traditional and emerging media.
Managing Myeloma is one of three such programs developed and managed by MediCom Worldwide, Inc.
