Nationally Recognized Multiple Myeloma Expert Dr. David Vesole Joins the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center

HACKENSACK, N.J., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center today proudly announced the addition of David H. Vesole, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.P. to its Multiple Myeloma Division. He will join division chief David S. Siegel, M.D., Ph.D., who has built a world-renowned myeloma clinical and research practice at the Cancer Center.

Dr. Vesole and Dr. Siegel are two of the foremost authorities in multiple myeloma, the second most prevalent form of blood cancer. They offer new and emerging therapies that enhance the quality and extend the lives of patients with multiple myeloma.

The John Theurer Cancer Center's Multiple Myeloma Division is one of only a few facilities in the U.S. to offer specialized expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of multiple myeloma. Dr. Vesole will hold the position of co-division chief, myeloma, and director of research, myeloma division.

Dr. Vesole is an expert in stem cell transplant therapy for the treatment of multiple myeloma. He previously served as director of the bone marrow transplant program at Loyola University Chicago - Stritch School of Medicine. He has authored more than 120 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and recently served as co-chair of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Myeloma Committee and co-chair of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research Plasma Cell Disorder Committee.

Dr. Siegel is a member of the International Myeloma Foundation's scientific advisory board and led the John Theurer Cancer Center's participation in the Multiple Myeloma Genomic Initiative, which involved the sharing of patient tissues across prominent hospitals. The initiative is designed to make clinical trials of new cancer drugs more efficient; the first wave of genome sequencing analysis will be released in coming months. Dr. Siegel's research has almost exclusively focused on multiple myeloma and has been published in many leading medical journals, including the British Journal of Haematology, the New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, and Bone Marrow Transplant.
