Veriscrip and DAMMAD Team Up to Combat Prescription Drug Abuse in New Hampshire
Posted on: Tuesday, 6 October 2009, 07:30 CDT
LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Veriscrip, the nation's first real-time Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP), and a subsidiary of VirtualHealth Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VHGI) has announced that it is working with Dads and Mad Moms Against Drug Dealers (DAMMAD) a national non-profit organization. DAMMAD's mission is to provide resources for law enforcement in the form of a tip hotline and networking to combat the proliferation of drug dealers in the community by developing a real-time prescription drug monitoring program in the state of New Hampshire.
According to Steven Steiner, DAMMAD Founder and President, "The only true solution to this growing problem of prescription drug abuse in our country is to have real-time data available to stop the fraud before it actually occurs. All the systems I have reviewed to date use information that is sometimes weeks to a month old." Steiner, who lost his son in 2001 to a prescription drug overdose, began DAMMAD to create a platform for parents to share their experiences, as well as to educate them on the early signs that their own children could be at risk.
Robert Tapales, VHGI Executive Vice President and Veriscrip GM, was quoted as saying, "We are very excited to be working with DAMMAD in supporting a real-time prescription drug monitoring program in New Hampshire." Tapales continues, "They have proven themselves to be a true advocate for the community in preventing the spread of prescription drugs being available from our street corners. Veriscrip will provide the key technological piece to assist in these efforts."
What DAMMAD is doing
- Promoting the establishment of legislation in NH for Real-time RX monitoring
- Seeking technology advocates such as the use of Veriscrip as the solution to stopping or significantly limiting prescription drug fraud
- Contacted nearly every member of the NH House and Senate to introduce the Veriscrip (Real-time solution)
- Already has two proposed pieces of legislation with sponsors
What Veriscrip is doing
- Helping to author the real-time legislation
- Will assist in securing grants for implementation so cost is null for the state
- Will provide a license of the Veriscrip solution to DAMMAD
Some general statistics - as of July, 2009 - there are 40 states with legislation for PDMP and 32 operational programs. Of which, NONE are real-time monitoring and reporting.
