PRINCETON, N.J., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "The National Changing Diabetes(®) Program (NCDP) is encouraged by President Obama's announcement to combat chronic diseases and recommends a significant portion of the $5 billion in available funds be allocated for medical research to identify a cure for diabetes, treatments for its devastating complications, and to optimize the management of those with diabetes -- in line with its significant and increasing prevalence. In this country, nearly 24 million people have diabetes, and an additional 57 million have pre-diabetes and are at high risk for developing the disease. It is estimated that pre-diabetes and diabetes cost the United States $218 billion annually (in 2007 dollars)*."
