The Network for a Healthy California and the YMCA of Los Angeles Team Up to Fight Childhood Obesity

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time, the Network for a Healthy California - Los Angeles Region and the YMCA of Los Angeles have joined forces to fight the growing epidemic of childhood obesity in our community. Developed in collaboration with Clear Channel Radio in Los Angeles, the Champions for Change radio and online promotion encourages parents to make sure that the start to this school year includes healthy changes in the ways their kids eat and play. The promotion runs through mid-October and consists of radio and online ads, a website, email blasts, and an on-air/on-site contest.
The radio ads feature real moms who serve as local advocates for the Network for a Healthy California's statewide Champions for Change campaign (http://www.cachampionsforchange.net). In the ads, they share their own "champion ideas" like including fruits, vegetables and low-fat milk for lunch, walking or biking in groups, and playing basketball at the YMCA. Their goal is to help prevent serious health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
The contest encourages listeners and readers to share their own champion ideas, which will be entered in a drawing for free six-month family memberships at participating YMCAs, LA Sparks season tickets, LA Galaxy tickets, and more. The contest is available online at all eight Clear Channel stations in Los Angeles by going to the station homepage and typing in the keyword "change." Entry boxes are also available at all 25 Los Angeles YMCA locations.
