Denver-based Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) established the nationwide contest to honor veterinarians and the lives they enhance. Pet owners, technicians, shelter workers and community members nominated veterinarians from nearly all 50 states. From these nominations, MAF awards one national and five regional awards.
Four veterinary professionals, including last year's winner, Dr. Rachel Boltz, of Adobe Animal Hospital in Los Altos, Calif., judged the contest entries.
Additional judges included Julie Legred, CVT, president of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America; Jason Merrihew with the American Animal Hospital Association and Marilyn Iturri, editor of Veterinary Practice News.
MAF, Hill's Pet Nutrition and BowTie Inc., publisher of DOG FANCY, CAT FANCY and Veterinary Practice News magazines, sponsored the contest. National and regional winners will be posted at www.thankyourvet.org and highlighted in the February 2010 issues of DOG FANCY and CAT FANCY and the January 2010 issue of Veterinary Practice News. Winners will also be honored in front of their peers on January 16, 2010, at the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando.
