Poll: U.S. Children Should Have Coverage

Posted on: Saturday, 16 July 2005, 21:01 CDT

Ninety percent of all U.S. adults believe all American children should have health insurance.

By some estimates, 11 million U.S. children are uninsured.

Eighty-two percent of those responding to a poll commissioned by the children's advocacy group Every Child Matters, agreed children should be covered under a federal health care program when their parents are unable to afford or provide health care.

The survey found 76 percent believe America's neediest children should receive the same health care coverage as members of Congress and their families.

Legation in Congress -- S-114, HR-1668 -- calls for building on existing federal-state healthcare programs to provide health insurance for all U.S. children. Sponsors propose paying for the legislation by not extending tax cuts set to expire for those making more than $300,000 a year.
