American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) President's Press Conference

BOSTON, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- AASLD President Scott L. Friedman, MD, will host a press conference on the first full day of presentations at the Liver Meeting®, the annual meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
When: Saturday, October 31, 2009 - 4:00-5:00 pm
Where: Hynes Convention Center, Room 209, Boston
Dr. Friedman will highlight individual studies and themes from the almost 2000 abstracts to be presented at this year's meeting from the leading researchers in the field. Topics will include pilot studies and clinical trials for hepatitis and the latest findings in fatty liver disease, as well as important research in the areas of drug-induced liver injury and controversial issues in liver transplantation. He has selected to review 18 abstracts in advance of their actual presentation in scientific sessions for the benefit of the media.
Dr. Friedman is the Fishberg Professor and Chief of Liver Diseases, Division of Medicine and a senior Attending Physician in Liver Diseases at Mount Sinai. He is formerly an Associate Editor of HEPATOLOGY, and on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Gut, and Journal of Hepatology. He is senior Editor of the textbook "Current Diagnosis and Treatment in Gastroenterology". He is a former Senior Fulbright Fellow at the Weizmann Institute of Science (1995-6); he serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the US-Israel Binational Science Foundation and is a member of the Senior Advisory Council for the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Dr. Friedman was a recipient in 2003 of the International Hans Popper Prize for his pioneering research in the field of hepatic fibrosis, and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation since 1995 and the Association of American Physicians since 2004. He has served on numerous committees for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and is recognized as an AGA Fellow. His research has been continually funded by NIH since 1986.
