Media Roundtable Meeting Preceding ‘White Coat Rally’
Opposing New Tax on Michigan’s Health Care System
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
LANSING, Mich., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The following was released today by the Michigan State Medical Society:
WHO: Hosted by the Michigan State Medical Society, Michigan Osteopathic Association and 30 other specialty societies and county medical societies that oppose the new tax.
WHAT: The “White Coat Rally” will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a march around the Capitol and then remarks on the Capitol steps at 1:00 p.m. The rally grew out of physicians’ frustration with Michigan’s elected leadership’s failure to appropriately fund the Medicaid program to ensure access to care for Michigan’s most at risk residents and, instead, to create another tax on Michigan’s vulnerable health care system.
WHEN: MEDIA ROUNDTABLE 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 20
WHERE: RADISSON HOTEL, REGENCY 1 ROOM, SECOND FLOOR
WHY: State government is cutting funding for the Medicaid program at a time when more and more Michigan citizens need it as their health care safety net. Another ill-conceived “stop-gap” quick fix money grab by the House Leadership to impose an inequitable tax on Michigan’s health care system through physicians’ gross receipts is fraught with unintended consequences including reduced access to health care for everyone in Michigan.
