First-Ever North Carolina Psoriasis Walk This Saturday in Charlotte

KENSINGTON, Md., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The first-ever North Carolina Psoriasis Walk will take place this Saturday, Oct. 24, in Charlotte's beautiful Freedom Park. The walk, to support the research and education programs of the nonprofit Psoriasis Cure Now, will include entertainment, information booths on psoriasis treatments, and a chance to meet and learn from others living with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. "Psoriasis patients and their loved ones from North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia are gathering in Charlotte this weekend to walk in support of those battling psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis," said Michael Paranzino, a psoriasis patient and president of Psoriasis Cure Now. "It's the last Psoriasis Walk of 2009 and given how engaged this group of walkers is, it is sure to be a powerful event."

Registration for the walk will begin at 8:00 am, and the walk will start at 9:00 am at the Freedom Park Amphitheater, 1900 East Blvd., Charlotte. There is no charge to participate in the Psoriasis Walk and free parking is available. Pre-registration is available via the website, and walk-ons are welcome.

Sponsors of the Charlotte Psoriasis Walk include Abbott, Centocor Ortho Biotech, and Amgen & Wyeth. Psoriasis is an incurable, recurring disease of the immune system that causes dry, painful skin lesions that itch, crack and bleed, and often includes arthritic symptoms. Recent studies have found that psoriasis increases the risk of heart attack, and severe psoriasis reduces life expectancy by an average of four years.
