D3's Products Division to Introduce First Product Offering, CDMS Software, at ASTRO Annual Meeting

Posted on: Thursday, 22 October 2009, 11:12 CDT

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- D3, a leader in the field of radiation oncology physics services, recently developed its first product offering; a unique computerized data management software application called Comprehensive Data Management Suite (CDMS). CDMS will make its official industry launch at the ASTRO Annual Meeting in Chicago, November 1-3.

CDMS is a Windows-based software application designed to minimize the data errors associated with commissioning a linear accelerator. CDMS was born from D3's extensive commissioning experience. While in the field, D3 physicists recognized that given the large amount of physics measurements involved in commissioning a linear accelerator, errors in the data become almost inevitable. When significant, these errors can have long-term effects on patient treatment and care. This need for improved data collection and processing throughout the industry led to the creation of CDMS -- a product that minimizes errors, reduces measurement time, and provides ongoing patient data management.

"We were able to utilize our experience and expertise in radiation therapy services and commissioning to recognize an industry problem and develop a comprehensive solution," said Gregory Ross, President, D3 Radiation Planning. "We are very proud of this product."

CDMS, which has obtained FDA 510(k) clearance, also helps to organize beam data, manage routine calibrations, perform MU calculations, provide ongoing patient data management and meets TG-106 recommendations. "With CDMS, the ultimate goal is to minimize errors in delivered treatment dose, which in turn should translate into improved outcome," said Dr. Nabil Adnani, D3's Chief Products Development Officer. CDMS has already been tested in the field at a number of clinics and hospitals and has received very positive feedback by physicists. The software is featured on a new website, www.d3cdms.com.

Attendees of the ASTRO annual meeting are invited to attend an educational session to introduce and highlight the design and clinical use of CDMS as a linac commissioning and data management tool at the D3 booth (#2481). The presentation has been approved by CAMPEP for one CEC credit.
