CDC Says Ground Beef Products Recalled

An E. coli bacteria outbreak among ground beef has resulted in 28 people with illnesses, at least one death and a major recall.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Monday that one death had already been linked to the E. coli outbreak in New York, while investigations were still ongoing for another in New Hampshire.
CDC officials told Reuters that three of the 28 reported cases were located in the US Northeast, and 18 were in the New England states.
So far, 16 people have been hospitalized due to the outbreak.
Fairbank Farms of Ashville, New York, recalled 545,699 lbs of ground beef over the weekend.
Recalled beef was sent to retailers such as Trader Joe's, Price Chopper, Lancaster and Wild Harvest, Shaw's, a unit of Supervalu, BJ's, Ford Brothers and Giant, a unit of Ahold, in eight states -- Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
The products have been labeled with sell-by dates from September 19-28.
"There is an association between the fresh ground beef products and illnesses in Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts," said the Agriculture Department.

Posted by hsr0601 on 11/02/2009, 23:03 Provided the average temperature is getting higher, accordingly all forms of germs, viruses, and influenza etc are more likely to multiply. Some skeptics say the warning against hazards of climate change is overstated, but judging from more frequent and widespread outbreaks of e. coli, salmonella, and bird, swine flu cases endangering human lives and economic recovery seriously, some prompt measures need to be taken, I guess. |
