Google Launches Flu Shot Finder

Posted on: Wednesday, 11 November 2009, 12:20 CST

Google on Tuesday unveiled a new service aimed at helping people locate the closest places to receive their seasonal and H1N1 flu shots.

The Internet giant announced on its official blog that it collaborated with the US Department For Health And Human Services, flu.gov collaborators and the American Lung Association to develop a flu shot finder.

Google launched the finder at www.google.com/flushot, and it said the tool would be available soon on www.flu.gov and the American Lung Association’s Web site.

Citing slower than expected flu vaccine production this season, Google said “we think it's important to bring together flu shot information in a coherent manner.”

“At the moment we have data for locations of flu vaccine directly from 20 states and counting,” Dr Roni Zeiger, Product Manager and Jennifer Haroon, Product Marketing Manager, wrote on the blog post.

“We are also continuing to add information from chain pharmacies and other providers in all 50 states; today, you'll find results from chains such as Walgreens, CVS and PDX participants, such as Kmart, Duane Reade, WinnDixie and Giant Eagle.”

In October, Google grew its Flu Trends to support 16 additional countries. The tool helps users determine the level of flu activity in certain regions of the world.
