IVANS Teams With Horizon Healthcare Services Inc. To Provide Electronic Prescribing
Posted on: Tuesday, 19 July 2005, 09:00 CDT
IVANS, Inc., a leading provider of networking and software solutions for the healthcare and insurance industries, is working with Horizon Healthcare Services, Inc., New Jersey's largest health insurer, to provide e-prescription services to hundreds of physicians in the Horizon network.
As part of Horizon's $5 million Health Connections initiative, the company will provide select physicians with Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (MDRX) e-prescribing software, a wireless router, handheld PDAs and high-speed DSL service through IVANS, all at no charge for the first two years. IVANS will handle the ordering and installation processes, as well as provide help-desk support and billing services.
Physicians will be able to create and send prescriptions from the exam room directly to the patient's pharmacy using a laptop, desktop, wireless PDA or tablet PC. This initiative will increase patient safety by reducing errors and improve efficiencies by eliminating time-consuming callbacks and requests for additional information.
"We are committed to finding ways to make it easier to provide quality patient care," said Richard Popiel, M.D., vice president and chief medical officer, Horizon. "Enabling our physicians to send prescriptions directly to pharmacies is in an important step toward greater patient safety and improved quality of care."
"IVANS is dedicated to advancing the use of technology among healthcare providers and is pleased to be part of this unique effort," said Maggie O'Hara, group vice president, sales and service, IVANS. "Initiatives such as these not only improve patient care but also provide more cost-effective healthcare for patients and helps physicians see the important role technology can play in their practices."
