IRVING, Texas, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- A group of new medical technologies approved by the Food and Drug Administration are the latest products available to hospitals through Novation supply contracts that serve about 2,500 health care providers nationwide. Novation, the supply company of VHA Inc. and the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC), has signed agreements with ten companies that offer new medical technology products that improve health care delivery. The negotiated Novation contracts help hospitals and other health care providers access lower pricing on expensive medical technologies and devices. The new contracts span a range of care areas including: cardiac, wound and oral care.
"These agreements demonstrate how Novation helps hospitals and other health care providers purchase the latest medical technologies at a lower cost," said Eldon Petersen, group senior vice president at Novation. "Novation's accelerated technology review process means that new and improved technologies do not have to wait for a scheduled competitive bid and VHA and UHC members get speedier access to the latest FDA-approved medical technology."
In addition to the new technology evaluation process, Novation also has an online Technology Forum (http://www.novationco.com/technology) that enables manufacturers to showcase new and potentially innovative products, whether they are on contract with Novation or not. The Technology Forum allows all suppliers to promote their new, emerging technologies to the health care marketplace and facilitates an open exchange of information between VHA and UHC members and participating suppliers.
Since its launch date in November 2002, the Technology Forum has received 302 submissions for posting on the public site and has logged 45,000 hits.
These efforts, in addition to contract modifications, mean that Novation helps members stay current with the latest emerging health care technology. Since late 2002, Novation has awarded 35 contracts for innovative products through these initiatives, with 10 contracts awarded to date in 2005.
