THE Government is to stockpile 2m doses of a bird flu vaccine, it was announced yesterday.
The vaccines will be used to protect key medical and emergency workers against a possible global pandemic of flu which has hit Asia.
Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt said manufacturers are to be invited to tender for a contract to supply the H5N1 vaccine to be used as a 'first line of defence'.
The World Health Organisation has warned that a pandemic of bird flu is inevitable and could kill 50,000 people in the UK
