TAMPA, Fla. - July 20, 2005 - The National Association of Chain Drug Stores and Informed Decisions, a strategic health information technology services firm, are partnering to help better educate Medicare beneficiaries on their options under Part D benefit that takes effect Jan. 1. The collaboration will bring Informed Decisions' Beneficiary Centered Enrollment program to retail pharmacy.
The BCE program is designed to educate Medicare beneficiaries on their options under Medicare Part D. It focuses on providing patient-specific information during the Part D open enrollment period, particularly for dual-eligible beneficiaries whose prescription drug benefits will transfer from Medicaid to Medicare.
"The dual-eligible population in particular is likely to be challenged during this transition period and will turn to their retail pharmacist, who is available without an appointment and understands their medication needs, to help them with their plan decisions," stated Craig Fuller, NACDS president and chief executive officer. "By working with Informed Decisions, we are able to arm our members with the information they need to be trusted advisors."
NACDS will utilize conduct outreach programs to its members to support, educate and train their pharmacists on the program.
The BCE program will work with state Medicaid departments to access historical drug utilization data and compare the benefits offered by the available plans to the medications and pharmacies dual-eligible beneficiaries currently use. A personalized scorecard evaluating how each plan matches up with the beneficiary's needs will be generated for that beneficiary.
