Physician Wellness Services to Present at 2010 Annual American Medical Group Association Conference
MINNEAPOLIS, March 3 /PRNewswire/ — Physician Wellness Services (PWS), a company that helps physicians and health care organizations manage the stress and other mental and behavioral issues that can lead to disruptive behavior and performance issues, is pleased to announce the selection of Physician Wellness Services’ Medical Director, Dr. Alan H. Rosenstein, as a key program presenter at the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) Annual Conference, March 17-20, in New Orleans, LA. This presentation will also feature dialog with David G. Danielson, JD, CPA, of Sanford Health-MeritCare.
The co-presentation of Rosenstein and Danielson will take place on Saturday, March 20, with a focus on the latest research surrounding disruptive physician behavior and effective ways to address it. As notable influencers in their respective fields, they will address the causes and consequences of these behaviors, while offering the audience a developmental approach to effectively assessing and managing problems. There are many gaps in communication and overlooked issues surrounding relationships between physicians and nurses, as well as other staff members, in medical group and hospital environments. Rosenstein and Danielson’s combined knowledge will lead to a fruitful exploration of these issues.
Upon completion of this presentation, attendees will be given the knowledge to:
- Recognize the initiating factors and negative downstream impact of disruptive physician behaviors on staff relationships, communication efficiency, and patient outcomes of care.
- Implement appropriate policies, procedures, reporting and assessment structures, and processes that hold individuals accountable for their behaviors.
- Evaluate appropriate education and training programs that teach skill sets that address conflict management and promote effective communication and team collaboration.
- Implement an early physician intervention program that emphasizes a positive, supportive rather than crisis-invoked, punitive approach to physician interventions with a focus on physician stress reduction, satisfaction, retention and productivity.
- Take the next steps and launch an effective program at their respective organizations.
Rosenstein’s seminal research on the impact of disruptive behaviors on nurse-physician relationships, and its effects on patient safety and operational issues, has been widely published, and also has been instrumental in helping healthcare organizations recognize the importance of dealing with workplace conflict and improving communications, and was cited by the Joint Commission’s Sentinel Alert on the subject. His position as Medical Director at PWS helps guide the services and peer outreach they provide to hospitals and health care organizations on these topics.
Danielson is the senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Sanford Clinic-South (SC), a division of Sanford Health-MeritCare, and responsible for the infrastructure and operational activities of SC, including risk management, lean development and quality of patient care, as well as activities that relate to the future growth of the organization. Danielson also assists the President of SC in providing direction in planning and coordinating physician activities.
The AMGA’s 2010 Annual Conference is a three day experience aimed at preparing health care professionals to meet the challenges in the new age of healthcare reform. The conference focuses on the role these professionals play in leading the transformation of health care by looking at solutions that are proactive and can be used as preventative measures before the main objective of patient care is lost. PWS will be available to answer further questions about their role and current initiatives in prevention during the AMGA 2010 Annual Conference, or you may contact them by visiting their website at www.physicianwellnessservices.com
