HOUSTON, March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- David J. Levy, JD, CCE, is slated to join the official Board of Directors of the Senior Citizens Bureau (SCB). Levy, who has been a member of the Senior Citizens Bureau's Advisory Board for 2 years, will join the Board of Directors at their April 2010 meeting.
Levy is a recognized specialist in non-clinical family caregiving with a focused expertise in planning for and support of complicated family caregiving arising from aging, chronic illness, dysfunctional family dynamics and disability. In conjunction with the upcoming SCB Online University, he plans to reach out on a broader scale to educate professionals, families, and caregivers themselves about the issues involved in family senior care - from the challenges of working within a non-existent long-term care system and a difficult acute care system, to meeting the day-to-day challenges that family caregivers face, both at home and in the workplace.
Levy has 20 years experience in the area of non-clinical family caregiving and family caregiver support, and is founder and current Chairman of the American Association for Caregiver Education, Inc, a 10-year-old not-for-profit devoted to teaching and training in the field of caregiving and providing original research on topics such as workplace productivity loss caused by the daily pressure of caring for an aging parent or relative (presenteeism). An innovator in the fields of both aging and family caregiving, Levy was instrumental in the creation of the first Master's Level Program for Geriatric Care Management, founded at Lynn University. Wrapped around a core Master's level geriatric program, it had the distinction of being accredited in less than 6 weeks.
It is this dedication to education and passion for family senior care that will help the Senior Citizens Bureau in its core mission of providing education to seniors, caregivers, and professionals. Through the SCB Online University, the Senior Citizens Bureau will be offering accreditation to those that successfully complete the online curriculum and pass a rigorous background check.
The Senior Citizens Bureau is a national, non-profit community resource for senior adults, children of senior adults and other senior caregivers, advocates and professionals. SCB provides free or low-cost services and guidance to the senior adult, including assistance for depression in the elderly, an online senior-related services directory and resource guide and the Elder Info Line, a national 24-hour, 7-day-a-week hotline.
