Robinson Kelly Project Called National Model; Risk Communications Review for Pa. Department of Health Cited By RAND Corporation

Posted on: Thursday, 28 July 2005, 18:00 CDT

An assessment of the Pennsylvania Department of Health's ability to communicate effectively during major public health crises recently was named one of "12 Exemplary Practices in Public Health Preparedness" by the RAND Corporation, a nonprofit research organization and think tank based in Santa Monica, California. RAND reviewed 73 projects around the United States before selecting the 12 finalists.

The state health department's risk communications needs assessment was conducted by Robinson Kelly Strategic Communications, LLC, a Harrisburg-based agency specializing in issue management, crisis communications and strategic communications planning.

Robinson Kelly worked with the health department to compile an inventory of state and local health department communications resources, review and update policies and procedures, train field staff and conduct mock emergency exercises for spokespersons representing both state and local health departments. The two-year project was completed in August 2004.

The RAND Corporation report can be viewed in .pdf format on the Web at http://www.rand.org/publications/TR/TR239/index.html. For more information about Robinson Kelly, visit www.robinsonkelly.com.
