WAUWATOSA, Wis., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ — There are as many ways to work fitness and self-care into the daily routine as there are people, and local women will check some of them out during the 9th annual National Women’s Health and Fitness Day (NWHFD), Wednesday, September 29th. Anointed Hands Massage Therapy will serve as an official host site for the day with Massage for Your Health by distributing information about women’s health resources to its clientele as well as offering a massage special of a 1-hr. massage for $55 – women only. Those who choose to take advantage of this special offer will join thousands of other women at hundreds of locations – all across the country on the same day – as they get active and learn their way to better fitness and health.

Experts know that even small increases in physical activity can lead to better health. NWHFD gives women an opportunity to begin or renew a commitment to self-care and to celebrate an active lifestyle.

Erica Vinson, a licensed massage therapist (LMT), says, “We want to educate the public about the importance of self-care and fitness. Hopefully, we will be a source of encouragement to women of all ages for implementing a self-care routine that is enjoyable. It’s also a great opportunity for them to find out about women’s health resources available in our community.”

The Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity and Health concludes that, “adults can obtain significant health benefits with a moderate amount of physical activity, preferably daily.” Moderate physical activity also can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, colon cancer, and feelings of depression and anxiety. Massage therapy shares in many of the same benefits and is a great activity for the mind and body. People should engage in regular physical activity on all, or most, days of the week. The activity does not have to be strenuous but appropriate and enjoyable for the individual – that is what’s important.

The 2010 National Women’s Health and Fitness Day theme is, “Fitness – A Smart Choice for a Better Tomorrow!” The winner of this year’s theme contest was Bernita Glenn of Chicago, IL. Her theme was selected from hundreds submitted for the annual event theme contest.
