Mediation Firm Expands Statewide

December 1, 2010

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — Consensus Conflict Management and Mediation Services, LLC, a professional mediation and conflict resolution firm based in Nashville, announces its expansion with local mediators in 36 counties across Tennessee.

“Our team, all of whom are Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Mediators, has banded together to help provide fellow Tennesseans unique and affordable access to justice,” said Consensus Founder Clay Phillips. “While many common disputes have traditionally taken years to litigate, the same disputes can be mediated in a matter of hours.

“Tennessee law requires mediation in all contested divorces. It can be ordered in the vast majority of civil cases, as well,” said Phillips, who noted that a 2005 study by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission revealed more than 80% of mediations settle without the intervention of the court.

Consensus mediators are a diverse group of professionals resolving disputes from Knoxville to Memphis. Some Consensus associates are attorneys, while others are educators, business people, counselors and social workers. Each Consensus associate is a Family Mediator – which includes divorces and parenting plans; and most are General Civil Mediators as well – which includes such issues as personal injury, workers compensation, landlord – tenant and building contractor – owner disputes.

Mediation is the voluntary process in which disputing parties work with an impartial, trained mediator to navigate the obstacles in their dispute to arrive at a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation is private, confidential and saves time and money, unlike the expensive and protracted process of going to court. Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 is the state’s directive for the private practice of court-annexed mediation and mediator qualification requirements.
