America’s Schools are Failing Our Children

December 8, 2010

Melanie West, America’s leading authority on right-brain learning, has dedicated her life to discovering why millions of America’s students are having trouble succeeding in school and she believes she may have the solution to what she calls an epidemic. West believes that how well you perform at school is highly dependent on whether you are left- or right-brain dominant and that America’s school system uses archaic left-brain-centric methods of teaching incompatible with how today’s children learn. She has helped thousands of students get back on the educational track with her proprietary new methods that allow them to tap into their own authentic style of learning.

Melanie West, America’s leading authority on right-brain learning has dedicated her life to discovering why millions of America’s students are having trouble succeeding in school and she believes she may have the solution to what she calls an epidemic. “Vast numbers of school-age children are not getting the right-brain stimulation they need, a potentially dangerous situation that is leading to under-performance and dangerous levels of neurological stress,” said West. “America’s school system uses archaic left-brain-centric methods of teaching incompatible with how today’s children learn. These children should not be labeled as “Ëœfailures’ when it’s the system that is failing them.”

While many educational psychologists assist parents in identifying learning problems through testing and observation, Melanie West not only identifies what is challenging a student, but also makes real progress in solving the issues at hand, many of which are caused by teaching methodologies in our classrooms and not a student’s theoretical learning disability.

West believes that how well you perform at school is highly dependent on whether you are left- or right-brain dominant. Both sides of the brain process information in different ways, but must work in concert if information is to be conceptualized, stored in long-term memory, and, most importantly, recalled well into the future. “In order to fully understand how to teach a child, we must understand the inherent needs of the right hemisphere of the brain,” she said. “Without involving the right side of the brain, we create a robotic state of learning.”

In other words, students who simply repeat information throughout the school day and on homework assignments do not conceptualize the information in long-term memory. When the right side of the brain has not mastered information, long-lasting deficits are created in the learning process leaving students with an inability to use the knowledge that has been downloaded into the left hemisphere to solve future problems.

West discovered that many of the children she works with struggle with the learning process simply because they favor the right hemisphere of the brain while learning new information. Her further research led to a deeper understanding of the root cause of many learning problems, including ADD, ADHD, and dyslexia, which appear to be triggered when information is passed from the left hemisphere of the brain over to the right hemisphere of the brain. However, the majority of her students excel when information is directed from right hemisphere to left. “When right-brain learning is addressed correctly, learning becomes an enjoyable experience for the whole household,” says West.

West’s proprietary new methods, documented in her book and DVD, The Right Side of Learning, are impacting the lives of students around the world as she helps children and teens tap into their own authentic style of learning. The book and DVD provide a simple, step-by-step guide that helps parents and children understand how to tap into effective learning pathways. Filled with powerful tools that can be implemented immediately, parents and children are astounded by how quickly school performance improves.

Her fast, fun and revolutionary methods use a visual, kinesthetic, and auditory approach to mastering learning. Unleashing measurable new school success, children and parents see these strategies come to life once they start applying the information found in the interactive DVD and book. Explains West, “Teaching a creative, right brain thinker how to thrive in a left-brain dominant learning environment empowers the student to not only succeed in school but to excel in life.”
