The study, which appeared in the August issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, consisted of 1,600 male and female full-time employees. The study found 25 percent of the office workers were sedentary for more than six hours per day. Researchers stated that sitting for long periods of time may increase the risk of obesity by 68 percent. The researchers also recommended employers promote physical activity in the workplace to prevent a loss of productivity as a result of diseases associated with obesity.
