Russian Region Declared Free of Avian Flu but Stocking Up on Disinfectant

Moscow, 4 August: The Federal Service for Veterinary and Plant Control has not detected avian flu in Tomsk Region.
The service said laboratory tests to detect the bird flu virus were carried out from 2 to 20 July. A total of 1,413 pathological samples were tested and the avian flu virus was not detected.

The veterinary department plans by 15 August to create reserve stocks of disinfectant, protective clothing, respirators, safety goggles, biological protective equipment and anti-flu chemical therapeutic preparations. The Region’s budget’s reserve contingency fund has allocated R2m for the purpose.
