National Research Profits Rise 25.3 Percent in Second Quarter

Posted on: Thursday, 4 August 2005, 21:00 CDT

Aug. 4--National Research Corp., a Lincoln company that measures performance in the health care industry, reported second-quarter net income of $925,000, or 13 cents a share, up 25.3 percent from $738,000, or 10 cents a share, in the same period last year.

Revenue grew 12.2 percent to $7.2 million for the three months that ended June 30.

Michael D. Hays, chief executive, said demand for the company's services is growing, and lower interest costs also boosted profits. So far this year, net income totaled $1.7 million, or 23 cents a share, down 12.6 percent from the first half of 2004 because of lower first-quarter earnings and revenue.

Patrick E. Beans, chief financial officer, said the value of government contracts increased slightly, and government-funded business has become less volatile.
