Finally a Burger for Everyone to Enjoy

January 24, 2011

DOYLESTOWN, Pa., Jan. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — As consumers struggle to find healthy, allergen-free, convenient foods, Doylestown, PA-based Asherah’s Gourmet is proud to announce the expansion of their line of 100% certified organic, certified gluten-free, soy-free Vegan Burgers. Their products are now available in 58 Whole Foods Market stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., Ohio, and Kentucky. They are also at independent health food stores, food co-ops, on the menus at cafes and restaurants in 18 states and online at the Gluten-Free Mall.

Founder Asherah Aentara of Doylestown, PA, created a new and delicious vegan burger recipe based on a popular high-protein grain known as quinoa. Once a sacred crop of the Incas, quinoa is now considered a “super crop” by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

“I was chronically ill for 15 years and regained my health through changing my diet. I then began giving cooking classes to help support others. My students often prompted me to bring some of my recipes to market, particularly one for a healthy vegan/veggie burger. At the time I had a 6-figure income and no interest or knowledge of how to do so. Suddenly, the company my husband and I worked for went bankrupt and our income disappeared. My husband said, ‘Honey, I think it’s time to market your burgers.’”

This is a great accomplishment for vegans and those intolerant of soy, gluten, dairy and nuts. Studies show one in 130 people have celiac disease and it’s believed that gluten intolerance is as much as one in seven. In addition, according to the Cornucopia Institute, many vegan/veggie burger brands that use soy protein isolate are contaminated with “hexane,” a neuro-toxin.

“Asherah’s Gourmet vegan/veggie burgers are food chemistry perfection,” says Dr. Anabelle Morales, Assistant Professor of Food Science, Technology and Nutrition. “An earthy, dark, and warm appearance … a dense, smooth texture … flavorful aroma … and delicious, rich, mouth-watering flavor … an amazing smell and taste interaction! These veggie burgers nourish my body, helping to promote and maintain good health.”

The President’s panel on cancer prevention recommends eating organic foods free of pesticides and herbicides to lower the risk of developing cancer.
