Slow Food Movement to Gain Momentum in Houston With Opening of Relish Fine Foods
HOUSTON, Jan. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Opening in spring 2011, Relish is a neighborhood market at 3951 San Felipe Street in River Oaks that specializes in local, seasonal and gourmet food and supports the Slow Food movement. Slow Food is a global, grassroots movement that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.
Like its cozy ambiance that feels like home, Relish’s food is beautifully simple. The 2,300-square-foot space will be stocked with artisan products including local cheeses and jams, and will offer take-out from an assortment of daily baked goods, homemade lunches and prepared foods featuring seasonal produce and ingredients. Menus will change weekly and lunch will run $10-$12. Special orders for hors d’oeuvres, party trays, picnic lunches and custom gift baskets may be placed for pickup. Made in small batches, product offerings support local producers including American Tuna, Atkinson Farming, Dustin’s Eggs, Grateful Bread, Tea Together and Texas Dairymaids. Shipping is available. Relish will also host community events featuring local vendors to help consumers, organizations and schools learn where their food comes from.
Native Houstonian and founder Addie D’Agostino was inspired by her mother–owner of Houston’s Elegant Edibles–to pursue a food-focused career. Her experience in New York City’s culinary scene and travels to European markets instilled a love for local foods and produce.
“I’ve always been passionate about food, where it comes from and how it’s made,” says D’Agostino. “I want to share my experiences and know Houstonians will embrace Slow Food.”
Spreading enthusiasm for local, seasonal and gourmet food, Relish is a fine foods store established in 2011 in Houston, Texas, that offers artisan products, homemade prepared foods and special orders for in-store pickup. A member of Slow Food USA, Relish supports the Slow Food movement, obtains the freshest ingredients through local producers and carries quality products and specialty items not found in typical supermarkets. In addition to local cheeses, jams and a daily selection of baked goods, Relish offers a weekly take-out menu of assorted lunches featuring seasonal produce and specially prepared items. Relish will be open Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. For more information, visit www.RelishHouston.com.
