Immunize Students For School

Rio Rancho Public Schools students must have all required immunizations before being allowed to register and attend school.

That includes middle and high school students who might be due for tetanus boosters or might not have been vaccinated against hepatitis B.

These immunizations are required for school attendance:

DTP or DTaP (diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis)

— Four doses; at least one must be given after age 4.

Td (tetanus/diphtheria booster)– A booster is required a minimum of every 10 years after completion of the DTP or DtaP series

Polio– Three doses, the last must be administered after age 4. If the three doses were administered before age 4, a fourth dose administered after age 4 is required

MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) — Two doses administered after the first birthday. A measlescontaining virus vaccine can substitute for one of the MMRs.

Hepatitis B — Required for students in grades K-3 and 7-12, highly recommended for students in grades 4-6. Three doses with a minimum of four months between the first and third dose. If a child is receiving immunization for the first time and is 11-15 years old: two doses 4 months apart.

Varicella (chickenpox) — One dose administered after the child’s first birthday, or proof child is immune or has had disease.
