Day of Wellness at the Denver State Capitol
FirstVitals® Health and Wellness Expands its Workplace Wellness Program to Individuals and Small Businesses of Colorado
Denver, CO (PRWEB) March 4, 2011
FirstVitals® Health and Wellness, a workplace wellness service organization, provided Colorado’s legislators with an interactive wellness program through an online health assessment survey integrated with biometric health screening as a demonstration project for the duration of the legislative session. The pilot program follows the passage of Colorado House Bill 1160, authorizing health insurance companies to provide incentives or rewards to small businesses with 50 or less employees who renew their health coverage and implement a qualified wellness program for their employees on or after July 1, 2010.
Controversy surrounded the passage of the Bill as to whether or not any wellness service provider would be able to service the small employer market in a cost efficient manner. FirstVitals®, a California based corporation, welcomed the opportunity to expand its operations to Colorado to provide their scalable online wellness solution to the small business community of Colorado. Ernie Lee, Chief Marketing Officer for FirstVitals® commented, “Colorado is the first State in the Union to provide an effective means to lower health insurance premiums to individuals and small businesses. Coupled with the passage of the recent healthcare reform, employers are eligible for group premium discounts along with lower employer contributions for premium incentive award programs, implementing an employer sponsored wellness program that will be cost neutral. In fact, a qualified wellness program will improve businesses’ bottom line with improved productivity and morale of its employees.” Sen. Linda Newell, Senate sponsor of HB 1160, added, “It’s great to see so many people taking advantage of these new wellness programs that will help us individually and collectively as we work toward healthy lifestyles and reducing health care costs for all of us.”
Colorado legislators throughout the remainder of this session will be able to experience the effects in the passage of House Bill 1160 as a wellness participant by undergoing a biometric health screening and completion of an online health assessment. Results from the health screening survey will generate a Personalized Health Management report to each legislator identifying their top three prevalent health risk factors. Digital health coaching will be delivered to the legislators to promote engagement in improving their health lifestyle score. Health and coaching content are accredited by URAC and NCQA, an independent third party quality assurance organization for the healthcare industry.
