Second Annual Bed Bug Boot Camps Set for Joplin, Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mo., April 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Schendel Pest Services will hold its second annual “Bed Bug Boot Camps” April 25 and April 26. These free half-day workshops were scheduled in response to the severe increase in bed bug infestations in homes and businesses throughout the Springfield and Joplin areas.
According to Schendel’s Bed Bug Division Manager, Mark Lillis, “These seminars are perfect for anyone facing questions or issues about bed bugs in their facility. Healthcare workers, apartment managers, and hotel personnel in particular will benefit by learning best practices to identify, locate, report and eliminate bed bugs.”
Public perception about bed bugs is that poor cleaning or sanitation causes them to thrive. However, bed bugs are notoriously good hitchhikers and travel in the belongings of people. Anywhere people congregate can become infested with bed bugs at any time. It is nearly impossible to prevent a bed bug infestation, so early detection and prompt treatment is the best course of action.
Bed bugs feed on the blood of human beings, most often at night time, when people are asleep. When they feed, they inject a salivary secretion into the wound to prevent coagulation. The fluid can cause a person’s skin to itch and even become swollen. Scratching can cause sores which often become infected.
Each participant in the Bed Bug Boot Camp will receive a free break-room-sized poster that can be used for employee training purposes, along with a supply of laminated pocket cards to help identify bed bugs. All participants will be entered into a drawing to receive a free one-hour canine bed bug inspection, valued at more than $300.
