Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) April 29, 2011

For the second consecutive year, Hair Club® will participate in the annual Day of Beauty festival at the Paul Mitchell School in Atlanta. The event is a day of makeovers for participants in the Special Olympics and their teachers.

Hair Club is providing stylists for the event. Natasha Hickman, Hair Club’s coordinator for the event, said the company has twice as many volunteers this year as last year.

“We volunteer because these kids are so appreciative and they love whatever you do to them,” Hickman said. “They love having a day that they get to feel pretty.”

At the event, professional hair stylists, nail technicians, skin care specialists, makeup artists, and massage therapists from across Georgia donate their time to give participants makeovers.

This year marks the 8th anniversary of the event and the third year it is being held at the Paul Mitchell School. The founder, Gloria Owczarski, was a former Special Olympics swimming coach who, Hickman said, still organizes most of the event’s details.

The event is open both to Special Olympics participants and their teachers. There is no admission cost for participants, and the makeovers are performed free of charge. Volunteers donate their time, and businesses across Atlanta provide the necessary products for the makeovers.

As Hickman said, “the event is rewarding for both the participants and the volunteers.”

“It’s just a day that you get to feel really good about what you do because you’ve made someone else feel really good. Everyone is happy, and you leave wanting to come back the next year with more people.”

The 8th Annual Day of Beauty will be held May 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Paul Mitchell School in Atlanta.
