LOS ANGELES, Aug 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation has partnered with "REAL MEN COOK" Foundation to encourage good prostate health by sponsoring the "REAL MEN COOK" Foundation's first annual bi-lingual prostate cancer education and screening event.
"Early detection and treatment of prostate cancer is essential to saving lives," said Founder and Director of "REAL MEN COOK" foundation and prostate cancer survivor Fred D. Parrott, M.D., L.H.D. "Our goal is to inform every man 45 years or older about the importance of regular screening and treatment, as well as to bring prostate cancer education and awareness into the community."
The event which will be held at the Rosario Talpa Church, is part of a 15- event Los Angeles county program, which will serve to educate men about prostate cancer testing, awareness and treatment through an open forum conducted in both Spanish and English by "REAL MEN COOK" Foundation healthcare professionals. The program will also provide free consultation and confidential prostate cancer screenings to men 40 years or older. The event will be held on August 13, 2005 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
Prostate cancer is the second most common malignancy in American men. More than 30,350 men are expected to die of this disease this year. Approximately 232,000 new cases will be diagnosed in 2005. In fact, California leads the nation in the number of new cases, 18 percent of which are in Los Angeles.(1)
"Though many men are aware that they may be at risk for prostate cancer, they are often uninformed about the latest testing, diagnosis and treatment options available to help prevent this disease," said Pam Cyrus, Director, Medical Affairs at Bayer. "We recognize the value of partnership, which will help to open the door to many men who otherwise would not be tested for prostate cancer, and are proud to be part of this year's continued efforts to promote disease awareness and prostate screenings."
