Arlington-Area Children to Receive Free Dental Care and Vision Services
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — United Concordia Dental is partnering with Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex, Davis Vision, Inc. and local EyeMasters stores on Saturday, Aug. 6 to provide free dental and vision care to about 40 children in need.
“Today, more than a fourth of all children ages 2 to 5 and half of those ages 12 to 15 are affected by tooth decay,” said Jerome Blum, D.D.S., United Concordia corporate dental director. “Tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease – five times more common than asthma. That’s why we are working with these partners to provide free dental care to children in need.”
Volunteer dentists, hygienists and eye care professionals will provide free dental and vision screenings, including dental exams and fillings and vouchers for free eyeglasses to children identified as having a need by Mission Arlington. The services will be offered from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the mission’s headquarters at 210 W. South St.
“Good vision is essential to childhood learning, and regular eye exams are an important part of a child’s overall health,” said Laura Dyer, Davis Vision’s assistant vice president of community relations. “Davis Vision and EyeMasters are delighted to work with United Concordia Dental and Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex to bring these important screenings and services to the community once again.”
In 2010, United Concordia Dental helped provide nearly $1.7 million in free dental services nationally to more than 8,000 children and adults with minimal or no insurance.
