The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Offers Program on Childhood Leukemia and Lymphoma

Posted on: Tuesday, 16 August 2005, 12:01 CDT

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Parents and caregivers of children with leukemia and lymphoma can learn about treatment options and clinical trials during a free telephone education workshop sponsored by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and led by Curt I. Civin, M.D., Samuelson Professor of Oncology and Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Childhood Leukemia and Lymphoma: An Update on Current Treatments and Clinical Issues, part of the Society's four-part education series on pediatric cancer issues, is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, 12 noon - 1 p.m. ET.

Dr. Civin, co-director of Immunology & Hematopoiesis Division, Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins, will discuss treatment updates and clinical issues for pediatric blood cancers. His presentation will cover current treatments, clinical trials and follow-up care for childhood leukemias and lymphomas. A question-and-answer period will follow.

"The more information families of children with these cancers have about these diseases, the better decisions they can make with regard to treatment," explains Robin Kornhaber, M.S.W., the Society's senior vice president of patient services. "We strongly encourage parents, caregivers and healthcare providers to take part in this program."

Nurses and social workers who participate have an opportunity to earn 1.0 Continuing Education contact hours.
