Ba Research International Receives Investment From Summit Partners

Posted on: Wednesday, 17 August 2005, 09:00 CDT

Ba Research International, a leading provider of generic analytical services for pharmaceutical companies worldwide, today announced it has received an investment from Summit Partners, a leading private equity and venture capital firm.

Founded in 1989, Ba Research is a pharmaceutical contract research organization (CRO) specializing in the analysis of biological samples for bioequivalence, bioavailability, and clinical trial studies. Previously known as Bioassay Laboratory, Inc., Ba Research has a customer base representing most of the top generic pharmaceutical companies and innovators worldwide.

Ba Research works with pharmaceutical drug developers facing the complicated, costly process of drug trials. As a CRO, Ba Research can more efficiently accomplish certain aspects of this process by working with traditional and generic pharmaceutical companies throughout all phases of their clinical trials to help determine proof-of-concept and drug efficacy.

"Our research chemists develop and validate analytical methods for pharmaceutical compounds and their metabolites with an emphasis on quality, accuracy and speed," said Paul Likhari, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Scientific Officer, Ba Research. "Since our founding, we have helped develop and lead the CRO sector through a focus on new method development and customer service."

"CROs are appealing outsourcing alternatives for pharmaceutical companies looking to expedite the time-to-market for their drugs, while also saving significant money on the actual performance of analytical and clinical work," said J.J. Kardwell, Vice President, Summit Partners, who has joined the company's Board of Directors along with John Carroll, General Partner, Summit Partners. "Ba Research is the leader in the analytical testing sector, and we are looking forward to supporting the team through the company's continued growth."

"Summit Partners' experience and resources will be invaluable to us as we continue to expand our business. This investment will enhance our ability to execute our growth strategy, which includes the continued introduction of innovative processes and the possible completion of strategic acquisitions," said Fiore Talarico, President, Ba Research.

Weil, Gotshal & Manges served as legal counsel for Summit Partners while Haynes & Boone represented Ba Research.
