Medidata Solutions' Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder Named a PharmaVOICE 100 Industry Inspiration

The PharmaVOICE 100 were selected from a group of nominations submitted by readers. A panel of PharmaVOICE editors evaluated the submissions based on the individual's ability to inspire, motivate and influence corporate leadership, research and development, technology, creativity, marketing, and strategy.

Serving as the voice of the physician and regulatory compliance at Medidata Solutions, Ed was recognized by PharmaVOICE for his valuable expertise from both the clinical and technology side of the industry. Ed is able to understand what is required to drive the industry ahead and translate the needs of clinicians into innovative products at Medidata. Ed's success has led him to secure patents on the company's clinical data management technology and has engineered several patented medical devices for the clinical development process.

Prior to forming Medidata Solutions in 2000, Ed served as assistant professor of clinical urology at Columbia University and has firsthand experience using healthcare technology solutions as a clinical investigator in numerous trials sponsored by both commercial industry and NIH. He has expertise in technology-based process evaluation and value modeling for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
A frequent featured presenter at industry and academic events, Ed has spoken at the Drug Information Association (DIA) Annual Meeting, the Society of Clinical Data Management (SCDM), and the Outsourcing of Clinical Drug Development Conference. In 1997, Ed was the recipient of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism & Excellence in Teaching Award for Outstanding Resident Role Model Skills. Ed was also a member of the 1984 Gold Medal winning U.S. Olympic Shooting Team in Los Angeles, California.
Ed received his B.S. in Chemistry from Fordham University in 1988 and his M.D. from Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1992, where he also completed his surgical internship, subspecialty training and fellowship.
