Facey Medical Group Awarded $1.2 Million From Pay-for-Performance Program; Facey Receives Top Honors From Blue Cross of California

Blue Cross of California has named Facey Medical Group as the top-performing medical group in Southern California, awarding physicians with $1.2 million in pay-for-performance bonuses based on their 2004 Quality Performance Scorecard.
"This great accomplishment is a reflection of the commitment and dedication of our physicians, providers and our Facey Medical Foundation team," said Dr. Fredrick Russo, President of Facey Medical Group. "Our improved quality scores have been strongly influenced by Allscripts, which has made a major contribution to our initiatives for continuous improvement. We couldn't have achieved this award without the Electronic Health Record from Allscripts. We have already earned an additional $2.1 million from Pay-for-Performance initiatives in 2005."
In 2003, Facey Medical Group physicians deployed TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record from Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX) to its 120 primary care and specialty physicians. It has played a major role in Facey's high performance rating and pay-for-performance award from Blue Cross. This award and pay-for-performance bonus is based on achievements Facey Medical Group accomplished in 2004. The Blue Cross evaluation process monitored participating physician groups for their efforts in improving the quality of care provided to HMO patients.
Blue Cross's Quality Performance Scorecard is one of many Pay-for-Performance initiatives. Another example of pay-for-performance is the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) pay-for-performance pilot program. The program's goal is to demonstrate whether paying financial incentives to physicians who use information technologies such as the Electronic Health Record (EHR) can lower the nation's annual $290 billion Medicare tab while improving patient outcomes.
"We congratulate Facey Medical Group for providing a perfect example of how an Electronic Health Record can help physicians deliver a higher quality patient care more cost-effectively and produce the documentation and tracking to measure their progress," said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. "We expect to continue to work closely with Facey to allow them to realize better performance from operations and qualify for pay for performance programs, funding and additional research based on continued functionality being added to TouchWorks every day."
