Tenet California today announced the appointment of Donald A. Lorack, 57, as the new chief executive officer of Irvine Regional Hospital and Medical Center.
After an extensive national search, the hospital's CEO selection advisory committee, consisting of governing board members and leaders from the hospital's medical staff, unanimously endorsed Lorack, who has served as interim chief executive officer for the past several months, as their preference for the permanent position at Irvine Regional. Lorack's appointment takes effect immediately.
"This is a very positive event for Irvine Regional Hospital and Medical Center and Tenet California," said Stephen L. Newman, M.D., Tenet California's chief executive officer. "It is also a significant win for Tenet as a whole to attract such talent. For the past decade and a half, Don has been one of the most respected hospital system CEOs in the country. His presence on our team is a vote of confidence in our future, and another sign that all of Tenet's hospitals are making notable progress in our national quest for quality and recognition."
Lorack received national recognition for his leadership as the chief executive officer for 13 years of Oklahoma's Hillcrest Healthcare System, an integrated not-for-profit company that includes 16 hospitals with more than 6,000 employees. A Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Lorack began his hospital career in California, where he served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Desert Hospital in Palm Springs from 1987 to 1991, and previously, as the vice president of administration and finance at Valley Hospital Medical Center in Van Nuys. He holds a bachelor's degree in management, and a master's in business administration from the University of Redlands; and earned certificates in health care administration and health systems management from both the University of California, Los Angeles and Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.
"I'm very excited to join Tenet California," said Lorack. "I look forward to working with Dr. Newman's team and the excellent staff at Irvine Regional Medical Center to advance the high level of success we all intend to achieve."
