Vyteris Strengthens Management Team With Appointment of Two Senior Executives

FAIR LAWN, N.J., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Vyteris Holdings (Nevada), Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: VYHN) today announced that the Company strengthened its management team by appointing two new senior executives. David R. Friend, Ph.D. has been named Vice President of Research and Louise Galanos was named Vice President, Quality Assurance. Both Dr. Friend and Ms. Galanos report to Vincent De Caprio, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Vyteris Holdings.
"Expanding and strengthening our senior leadership is an important step in the Company's development," stated Dr. De Caprio. "In their new roles Dave will be responsible for directing all research activities associated with identifying drug candidates, new applications for our Acytve(TM) transdermal technology as well as evaluating new technologies for drug delivery. Louise will be responsible for leading the quality management efforts at the Company. With their addition, we have added tremendous technical expertise to continue executing our growth plan."
Dr. Friend was most recently the Director of Pharmaceutical Development at Microdose Technologies, Inc., a drug delivery company developing dry powder inhaler technology. He held previous leadership positions as Senior Director, Formulations at Delsys Pharmaceutical, Senior Director, Pharmaceutical Operations at Vascular Therapeutics, Inc., and Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer at Cibus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Friend began his career in controlled release drug delivery at SRI International, where he headed up the Controlled Release and Biomedical Polymers Department. While there, he worked in areas such as iontophoretic transdermal delivery, ocular drug delivery, skin penetration enhancers, micro-encapsulation, nasal dosage forms and organ-specific drug delivery.
Dr. Friend holds a B.S. degree in biochemistry from the University of California at Davis and a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley, where he received the Dougherty Award for Outstanding Graduate Research. He is past U.S. editor of the Journal of Controlled Release and past editor of the Controlled Release Society Newsletter. He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Controlled Release, Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, and Pharmaceutical News.
Ms. Galanos was most recently Senior Director, Quality Assurance and Site Compliance at Alpharma, Inc. where she established and maintained quality assurance and cGMP practices and procedures. As well, Ms. Galanos implemented quality systems upgrades, and supported strategic development of new product launches. Previously, Ms. Galanos held senior quality assurance and compliance positions in various biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies including Director of QA Documentation Systems and Batch Disposition for Purdue Pharmaceuticals, Director of Quality for IVAX Corporation, Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control for Alteon Inc., and Compliance Manager, Corporate Quality Assurance for Schering-Plough Corporation. Ms. Galanos has both medical device and pharmaceutical experience, beginning her career as a research microbiologist for Propper, Inc., a medical device manufacturer.
Ms. Galanos holds a B.S. in Marine Science and Biology from Jacksonville University and is a certified quality auditor (CQA) and certified quality manager (CQM).
