Paradise Valley Hospital, Adventist Health and CliniComp, Intl., a recognized leader of advanced, hospital-wide clinical information systems, today announced that Paradise Valley Hospital's Maternal/Child Services unit has successfully implemented the Essentris(TM) Perinatal system in its New Life Family Center. This is the first hospital in San Diego's South County to have 100 percent of all nurses, ancillary clinicians and physicians using an electronic clinical documentation system.

Mothers to be, as well as hospital accrediting agencies nationwide, are mandating safer hospital stays and the improvement in family health. Birthing experiences are most often wonderful, but can sometimes be difficult due to medical errors or poor communication among care providers.

"Because every life is precious..." is the beginning of Paradise Valley's Mission Statement. Paradise Valley Hospital's Maternal/Child Services will use CliniComp's Essentris Perinatal system in its New Life Family Center to achieve rapid and clear communication of patient needs, reduce medical errors, and improve patient outcomes and patient satisfaction.

"Technology is critical to making deliveries safe and birthing a positive, safe experience. We're pleased to offer peace of mind to expectant mothers by implementing this system," said Ann O'Neill, director of Maternal Child Services at Paradise Valley Hospital. "CliniComp is a trusted technology provider that gives us the highest quality, bedside clinical application."

"What makes this project so exciting is that all hospital employees, including physicians, are able to electronically access, populate and update maternal and newborn medical records throughout the entire hospital stay," said Richard Kremsdorf, M.D., president and CEO of CliniComp. "Leaving paper records behind is critical to improving medical care and improving communication inside and outside the hospital setting."

The project was generously funded through a near million-dollar grant from the First 5 Commission of San Diego, whose purpose is to promote the health and well-being of children during their most critical years of development, from prenatal to age five.

Paradise Valley Hospital is celebrating the successful completion of the "New Life Monitoring Project" in a private event on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 from 2-5 p.m. The media is cordially invited.

In attendance will be First 5 Commission Executive Director, Laura Spiegel; CliniComp's President, Richard Kremsdorf; Paradise Valley's President, Alan Soderblom; as well as members of the Commissioners for First 5 Commission, the Boards of Paradise Valley Hospital and members of the National City Council.

Other invitees are notable politicians that have supported the hospital and its goals, including: Pam Slater-Price, Chairman of the Board for First 5 commission and Chairman of the board of County Supervisors; Supervisor Greg Cox; Congressman Bob Filner; Assemblyman Juan Vargas; and Senator Denise Moreno-Ducheny.
